Hockey for all
It’s awesome to see the support a hockey team gets “in the South” and the Red Eye Rowdies are a big part of that. With a belief that hockey fandom is for all, 919C is proud to partner with this supporters group. Rowdies’ mascot Ferda is ready, are you?
THE CAUSE
With each Rowdies’ item sold, money is heading towards programs that strive for equality and hockey for all. Whether it be Black Girls Hockey Club or youth hockey programs in the Triangle, everyone should have the chance to love and support the game of hockey.
More than hockey
Founded in 2018, Red Eye Rowdies (R.E.R) is a supporter group for the Carolina Hurricanes. Their aim is to bring a unique culture, atmosphere and fan experience to games at PNC Arena, while building support for the Canes and hockey throughout the Carolinas.
“We know that this was an interesting offseason for the Hurricanes, but we just want to emphasize that the communal aspect is more important than an individual player. We want people to come out and feel like they are part of a unique supporter community.”
The Rowdies can be found tailgating pregame, then singing songs, waving flags, holding banners and scarves, yelling chants throughout the game, itself. “You don’t have to have tickets or even own any Hurricanes merch,” said RER founders, “if you love hockey, want to have a drink and connect with other local fans, that’s what we’re here for.”
When it came to where funds will be heading for this collection, it was an easy choice. “We want every dollar to stay local and promote equality. There is tension in the hockey community that is unneeded, and if we can help in a small way, we’re going to.”
We at 919C, hope this is the first of a handful of hockey-related swag. This group is building a culture that is perfect for the Triangle and we’re excited to see it grow.
